WILLINGHAM, Mr. Leon - Age 65, passed away Saturday, April 21, 2012 at Avalon Hospice. Family hour 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 28, 2012 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Eld. George Powell, offciating, Eld. Alvin Sanders, presiding. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Mr. Willingham will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 3-8 p.m. Friday.
Mr. Leon Willingham, Sr. “Lee Dawg” was born September 19, 1946 in Flint, Michigan, the son of Bryant and Rebecca Willingham. Leon was a resident of Flint. He recently accepted Christ into his life. Leon graduated from Northern High School. He was employed by General Motors and self-employed. Leon was a loving dad and granddad. He enjoyed watching old westerns movies with his family hours at a time, playing cards and hanging with his friends at Dawn Donuts (Clio Rd.)
He leaves to cherish his memory: mother, Rebecca Willingham; 3 daughters, Crystal Blueitt, Lynne Hampton, Jamilah Willingham and Laura Coleman; 3 sons, Eric Boaz, Reco and Paul Powell. Mr. Willingham was a father figure to Demecrion Boaz, Demetrius Boaz, Deana Boaz, LaShawn Gregory, Rosie Gregory, Charmaine and Michael McNuckle; 32 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters, Hollie (Michael) Shumpert, Karen (Theo) Moore and Dollene (Freddie) Roberts; 3 brothers, Eddie Willingham, Freddie Willingham and Frank Willingham, all of Flint; a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends including special friend, Joan Bryd, Anna Boaz and Gus Cayden.
Mr. Willingham was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Willingham; son, Leon Willingham, Jr.; grandson, DeQuindrae Blueitt; father, Bryant Willingham; 2 brothers, Edgar and Phillip Willingham; and special friend, Gail Gregory.
