HAWKINS, Mr. Cephus - Age 76, passed away Friday, June 15, 2012 at Avalon Hospice. Family hour 10AM Saturday June 23, 2012 at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, 4805 N. Saginaw St., with funeral service commencing at 11AM. Dr. Henry L. Fuller, officiating. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10AM Saturday. Mr. Hawkins will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. , and may be viewed from 12Noon-8 p.m. Friday.
Mr. Cephus “Pete” Hawkins was born June 3, 1936 in Greenville, Alabama, the son of Roman Jake and Vinnie Hawkins. Cephus was a resident of Grand Blanc, MI. He was a member of Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, where he served on the Security Ministry. “Pete” graduated from Parker High School in Birmingham, Alabama and attended Jarvis Christian College in Hawkins, Texas. He worked for the City of Flint, General Motors and retired form Webasco. “Pete enjoyed fishing and spending time with family, especially during family gatherings. He also had a special love for music.
Mr. Cephus “Pete” Hawkins leaves to cherish his memory: wife, Allene Hawkins of Grand Blanc, MI; daughter, April Mason; 3 sons, Kevin of Washington, D.C., Virgil Martin of Germantown, MD and Chad of Stone Mountain, GA; stepdaughter, Carla (Ian) Hatter of Lawrenceville, GA; stepson, Dwalyn Stedman of Stone Mountain, GA; 11 grandchildren; 4 brothers, Charles (Betty) of Hazel Crest, IL, Louis of Grand Blanc, MI, Ron of Clarkston, MI and Rev. Jake (Remonia) of Flint; sisters-in-law, Irene B. Johnson of Grand Blanc, MI, Edna (J.T.) Grace of Ellenwood, GA, Ann Elliot of Stone Mountain, GA and Debra (Tony) Ryan of Flint; brothers-in-law, Charlie (Silenca) Vines, Leroy (Ceresa) Vines, all of Flint, Jerry Vines of Grand Blanc, MI; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends.
Mr. Hawkins was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Theodore, William and Benjamin Hawkins; aunts and uncles.
