JOHNSON, Mr. Robert - Of Flint, age 82, went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, June 21, 2012 at his residence surrounded by loved ones. Family hour 11 a.m. Saturday, June 30, 2012 at Pentecostal Temple C.O.G.I.C., 2320 Caniff St., with funeral service commencing at 12Noon. Pastor James Sanders, officiating. Interment Lovedale Memorial Cemetery, G-5175 E. Bristol Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 11 a.m. Saturday. Mr. Johnson will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12Noon-8 p.m. Friday.
Deacon Robert A. Johnson was born in Memphis, TN where at the age of 16 he met and married his wife of 60 years the late Maudine Johnson. Robert moved to Flint, MI in 1952 where he began to work for General Motors at Buick City, his wife and children later to follow. After 35 dedicated years he retired from Fisher Body in Grand Blanc, MI. Deacon Johnson was a devoted husband and father of 12 children; 5 girls and 7 boys. Deacon Johnson was a very faithful and loyal man to his family and church, and worked very hard to instill those values in his children and grandchildren. His spiritual journey began at Glad Tidings C.O.G.I.C under the leadership of the late Elder Lewis Tolbert, Holy Hill C.O.G.I.C the late Elder Cleave Latchison, Greater Bethlehem Ministries under the leadership of Pastor Johnnie Brown III and Dr. Nathaniel Lewis Sr., (Pastor Emeritus) and ending at Bountiful Love Ministries under the leadership of Pastor Kevelin Jones.
Robert leaves to cherish in his memory: his only surviving sibling out of 15 children, his brother, Theodore (Mamie) Johnson; his children, Robert L.“Ricky” Johnson, Violet Smith, Helen Johnson, James Johnson, Charles Johnson, Larry Johnson, Kenneth Johnson, Cecelia (Kevin Sr.) Mize, and Latonia Johnson, all of Flint, MI; 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great granddaughter; a host of nieces, nephews and special friend, Mr. Robert Knighten.
Deacon Johnson was preceded in death by his wife, Maudine Johnson; parents, Francis Davis and James Johnson; 2 sons, Richard and Scotty Johnson; 1 daughter, Carol Ann Townsend; 3 sisters; and 11 brothers.
