BARNES, Ms. Shantil Marie - Age 22, passed away Monday, June 25, 2012 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 10 a.m. Friday, July 6, 2012 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Eld. Robert Chambers, officiating. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 10 a.m. Friday. Ms. Barnes will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home. There will be no public viewing.
Ms. Shantil Marie Barnes was granted her Angel Wings on June 25, 2012, surrounded by her family and friends. Shantil was born on April 18, 1990 in Flint, Michigan, the daughter of Ray and Cheryl Barnes. She graduated from Flint Northern High School. Shantil continued her education at Mott College, completing her training as a Certified Nursing Assistant. She loved to laugh and she always had a bright smile on her face. Shantil enjoyed shopping, music, spending time with her family and many friends. Although Shantil’s life would seem short to many; but those who were touched by her understood that the quality of time in which one lives. She gave us all courage, hope and reminded us of the preciousness of life.
Ms. Shantil Marie Barnes is survived by: loving parents, Ray and Cheryl Barnes of Flint; paternal grandparents, Charles and Carrie Barnes of Gulfport, MS; sister, Cynthia Harper; brother, Deon (Tanesha) Harper; nieces, Kyliah, Nykeila and Kayana Pearson; nephews, Navario and Keon Harper, all of Flint; a host of other relatives and friends.
Ms. Barnes was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Lonnie J. and Ann Lee Harper.
