ROMAN, Mrs. Beulah - Age 106, passed away Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at McLaren-Flint. Family hour 10 a.m. Thursday, July 5, 2012 Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, 424 Kennelworth St., with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m Dr. Rev. Major A. Stewart, officiating. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10 a.m. Thursday. Mrs. Roman will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 11 a.m.- 4 p.m. Wednesday.
Mrs. Beulah B. Roman, affectionally named Beulah Blanch Francis Leuticia Aretta Williams, was born in Mandale, Ohio on December 19, 1905, the tenth of 14 children born to Charles and Luella (Goings) Williams. Beulah married James Galloway and one son, Wendall, was born to this union. She then married Theodore (Ted) Roman who preceded her in death in 1961. Mrs. Roman joined Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church in 1928 and faithfully attended until her death. Over the years she participated in various church activities including the Missionary Society, the Ada Barry Bible Class and the Mother’s Board. Mrs. Roman retired after 35 years of employment from Fisher Body Flint Plant 1 in 1967. Beulah was an avid golfer, competitive bridge player and bowler; winning many trophies. She was also an enthusiastic reader and enjoyed crossword and word find puzzles. Beulah was very active in senior activities at Kearsley Manor, Burton Place and the Brennan Center, and even participated in the local Senior Olympics. She loved knitting; making gifts for family and the church.
Mrs. Beulah B. Roman leaves to cherish her memory: grandson, Wendall E. Galloway, Jr.; granddaughter, Brenda Kay (Odean Jr.) Horne; daughter-in-law, Ellen Jayne Galloway, all of Maryland; devoted nephew, Layton L. Galloway of Flint; great grandchildren, Wendall Galloway III, Odean Horne III, Diandra Horne, and Kamara Galloway; 2 great-great grandchildren, O’Niya Renee’ Horne and Wendall Galloway IV; godson, Layton E. Galloway; and a host of other family and friends.
Mrs. Roman was preceded in death by her son, Wendall E. Galloway Sr., grandson, Craig Duane Galloway; parents, Charles and Luella Williams; 13 brothers and sisters, John, Charles, Ethel, Pearl, Alva, Verna, Julia, William, Schuyler, Furl, Eula, Clayton and Thomas.
The family extends special thanks to Shelley and Tyesha Bannister, Nina Lewis, Lolanda Johnson and her Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church family.
