Edwards, Mrs. Cherry - Age 67 passed away, Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at Avalon Hospice. Family hour 10 a.m. Monday, July 23, 2012 at Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church 1610 W. Pierson Rd., with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m., Pastor James E. Kennedy, Officiating. Family and friends will assemble at the church 10 a.m. Monday. Mrs. Edwards will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. Sunday.
Mrs. Cherry A. (Guthrie) Edwards was born September 25, 1944 in Fulton, Tennessee, the daughter of Herschel and Alice Mozelle Guthrie. She was a member of Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church. Cherry was employed as a Dietician for St. Joseph Hospital for a number of years. She enjoyed cross word puzzles, going to church, eating Sherbet Ice Cream and her grandchildren.
Mrs. Cherry A. Edwards leaves to cherish her memory: 2 daughters, Sheila (Edwards) Odom and Kimberly L. Edwards; son, James Edwards, Jr.; 8 grandchildren, James L. Edwards III, Lucas A. Odom, Lakin B. Odom, Jazz M. Edwards, Leif E. Odom, Alexa R. Odom, Malachi Edwards-Thomas and Tawan Edwards-Thomas; 2 sisters, Peggy (John) Lewis and Margie (Frank) Shanklin; 2 brothers, Ray Anthony (Sheri) Guthrie and Billy (June) Guthrie; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends including special friends, Dorothy Burns, Mable Clark, Vernetha Ray, Brian, the Miller, Odom, Guthrie, Roach, Shanklin and the Edwards families.
