KING, Mr. John M. - Age 88, passed away peacefully at his residence surrounded by his family, Saturday, July 21, 2012 at residence. Family hour 10 a.m. Saturday, July 28, 2012 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Bishop Earl Stewart, officiating. Interment Crestwood Memorial Cemetery, G-2020 E. Hill Rd., Grand Blanc, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 10 a.m. Saturday. Mr. King will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 12Noon-8 p.m. Friday.
Mr. John Morgan King was born June 1 1924 in Meridian, Mississippi. John, like many others, relocated to Michigan in 1955 to find employment. He was employed by the Duran Hotel, El Rancho and General Motors Service Parts Operations, retiring in 1983 with 16 years of service and was a member of UAW Local 659. John lived a full lie with many interests including cooking, fishing, and hunting. He was known throughout his community as the “Lawnmower Man”, because of his ability to repair all types of mowers and snow-blowers. John was a faithful member of the Detroit Street Church of God, where he dedicated many years of service as head of the Kitchen Committee.
John will sadly missed by: loving wife of 53 years, Evelyn King; 6 children, LaDean Akins of Flint, Johnnie Mae (Gilbert) Bransford of Palmetto, FL, Paris McKenzie of Ypsilanti, MI, Ronald (Jackie) King of Swartz Creek, MI, April (James) Tew of Lancaster, CA and Shemidia (Gregory) Williams of Mt. Morris, MI; 3 brothers, Arthur (Essie Bee) King of Bailey, MS, Zeno (Mary Alice) King Meridian, MS, and Roy (Sarah Nell) King of Marion, Ms; sister, Joanne Moody of Meridian, MS; 20 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends including special friends, J.C. and Emma Jean McDaniels and Cyrus Plumpp.
Mr. King was preceded in death by his daughter, Carolyn Davis; son, Robert King; great-granddaughter, Adrianna Sanders; mother, Gradybell Brookshire (Joe) Coleman; father, James E. (Leona) King; sisters, Ida Mae Johnson and Beatrice Dills.
