ABDUL-RASHID, Mr. Hakim - Age 54, passed away August 24, 2012 in Dallas, Texas. Family hour 12 noon Saturday, September 1, 2012 at First Union Missionary Baptist Church, 7004 Fleming Rd., with homegoing service commencing at 1 p.m. Rev. Dennis Powell, officiating, Pastor Archie Powell, Jr., Host Pastor. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 12 noon Saturday. Mr. Abdul-Rashid will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12 noon-8 p.m. Friday.
Mr. Hakim F. Abdul-Rashid was born Gary Wayne Morris, April 20, 1958 in Flint, Michigan, the son of Hattie and Webster Morris. Hakim attended Flint Community Schools, where he graduated from Northwestern High School, “Class of 1975.” Hakim, thereafter in 1982, served his country in Germany as a member of the United States Army. During his tour of duty, he earned numerous Medals of Honor. Subsequently, Hakim earned a Bachelor’s degree from the University of the Virgin Islands, St. Thomas in 1990; and a Juris Doctorate from Atlanta Law School in 1994. Throughout Hakim’s lifetime, he utilized his talents to serve as a devoted public servant for God’s people throughout the United States and abroad. Hakim was a Certified Public Accountant who served as an Internal Auditor for CARE, an international Human Services Organization; Auditor for the Internal Revenue Service (IRS); and Chief Internal Auditor for Dallas County Schools in Dallas, Texas. Hakim was truly an achiever, who grew professionally and spiritually as he traveled his life’s journey. Hakim continuously exemplified God’s loving spirit by maintaining a caring, loving relationship with family and friends. Hakim was a strong arm of support and inspirational force that inspired and uplifted family, co-workers, and friends.
Hakim leaves to cherish his memory: wife, Provia Abdul-Rashid of Dallas, TX; daughter, Terria Abdul-Rashid; grandchildren, Tia Brown and Timari Brown; parents, Hattie and Lee Watson; father, Webster Morris of New York; sister, Kay Muhammad; 4 brothers, Harold Watson, Leroy Watson, Anthony (Tracy) Watson and Freddie Watson of Dallas, TX; aunts, Victoria (Lawrence) Brooks, Patty Dean Poplar and Leslie Caudle; uncles, Henry (Vicky) Poplar, Jr., James (Jackie) Poplar and Fred (Donna) Poplar; parent-in-laws, Prisca and George Kamala; sister-in-laws, Joan Felabe Wilson of Tanzania, Africa, Mary Barubaru, Elieth Kamala; brother-in-laws, Wellington (Moja) Kamala of Bowling Green, OH, Jones Kamala and Johnson Kamala, both of Tanzania, Africa; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Mr. Abdul-Rashid was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Poplar; grandparents, Henry and Susie Poplar; host of other relatives.
