PERSON, Mrs. Callie M. (Mahan) "Callie P." - Age 63 passed away, Monday, September 3, 2012 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 11, 2012 at El-Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, G-3248 Mackin Rd., with funeral service commencing at 12 noon. Pastor Danyiel Griffin, officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 11 a.m. Tuesday. Mrs. Person will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12Noon-8 p.m. Monday.
Mrs. Callie M. Mahan-Person affectionately known by her family and friends as “Callie P.” was born May 21, 1949 in Perry County, Sprott, Alabama, the daughter of Ben and Eunice Mahan, Sr. Callie moved to Custer, Michigan at the age of 8 with her family and attended Mason County Public School System. At the age of 16, she move to Flint and graduated from Flint Central High School, she also attended Jordan Community College and Mott Community College. Callie was employed at Cook Elementary School as a Teacher’s Aide and later became a dedicated employee for 10 years at Buick City, a division of General Motors and was a member of UAW Local 599. “Callie P.” was a member of 12th Street Church of God for many years and later joined El-Bethel Evangelistic Missionary Baptist Church. She loved the Lord and her faith was strong. She was a caring person with a kind heart and willing to help anyone. However, she had no problem telling you what was on her mind. In her spare time, “Callie P.” loved cooking, sewing, upholstery, collecting antiques, canning, shopping, riding in the country, telling old stories and spending time with her family especially her grandchildren. Through all the pain she still was a Blessing and uplifting to the hearts of everyone around her.
Mrs. Callie M. Mahan-Person leaves to cherish her memory: daughter, Natallie Wright and friend, Deondra Hason, Sr. of Mt. Morris, MI; two sons, Kery (Vanessa) Mahan of Detroit, MI and Jamon (Sakinah) Mahan, Sr. of Valley, AL; fourteen grandchildren, Thikera, Kaunte`, Somona Mahan, all of Flint, Kerry Mahan, Jr. of Scottsville, MI, Jordan Hernandez of Spring Lake, MI, Amari Mahan of Detroit, MI, Alisa and JarQuise Hightower and Jamon Mahan, Jr., all of Florida, Samon Mahan of Alabama, Cyonah, WaConda Jr., Coleon and Tawiyah Wright, all of Mt. Morris, MI; two great grandchildren, Akairrah Martin and DanTana Gordon, Jr.; father, Ben Sr. (Willie Mae) Mahan of Idlewild, MI; ten sisters, Doris Guy, Betty (David) Roberson, Claretha (Eric) Broc, Fannie Richardson, Dorothy (Elisha) Burnes, all of Flint, Jessie Sanders of Warren, OH, Brenda Miller of Muskegon Heights, MI and Priscella Miller of California, Flora (Richard) Chapman of Arizona; five brothers, Walter (Kim) Mahan of West Branch, MI, Carl and Otis Mahan, both of Cleveland, OH, Jimmy (Beth) Mahan of Cleveland, OH and Johnny Brown of Detroit, MI; a host of nieces, nephews and special friend, Ms. Dorothy Jones.
Mrs. Person was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Whitney, Shavonne Mahan; mother, Eunice Mahan; sisters, Susie Mahan and Edith Mosley; brothers, Ben Mahan, Jr. and Walter Terrel.
