BOOKER, Mrs. Hermione "Fannie" – Age 80, passed away Friday, September 21, 2012 at McLaren-Flint. Family hour 11 a.m. Saturday, September 29, 2012 at Christ Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church, 317 E. Hamilton Ave., with funeral service commencing at 12 Noon. Rev. Dr. Mark Anthony Jones, officiating, Supt. Steve A. Hawkins presiding. Interment Flint Memorial Park Cemetery, G-9506 N. Dort Hwy. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 11 a.m. Saturday. Mrs. Booker will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral home and may be viewed from 1-8 p.m. Friday. Mrs. Hermione Booker, affectionally known as “Fannie” was born September 5, 1932 in Lexington, Mississippi. She was one of the second set of twins born to John & Katie Lee Wiley.
Fannie graduated from Mt. Olive Vocational School in 1950. Fannie married Norman Booker Sr. on February 7, 1953 and from that union they were blessed with three children. Shortly thereafter the Booker family moved to Flint, Michigan.
Fannie went to work for her brother and uncle at their restaurant upon her arrival to Flint, and later begin working at Kmart where she was employed for 30 years and in September 1994 she retired. Fannie was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Fannie loved to cook and spend time with family and friends. Her family, friends and neighbors referred to her as the “candy lady”.
Fannie accepted Christ as her personal Savior at an early age and upon moving to Flint she united with Canaan Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Newman. She followed Rev. Robbs and joined membership with Christ Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church. As a member of Christ Fellowship she served faithfully in the choir until her failing health.
Fannie leaves to cherish her memory: children, Dr. Norman Lee (Sharon) Booker Jr., Marilyn (Roosevelt) Maze; twin-brother, Theodore (Emma) Wiley; sisters, Charlene (Isaiah) Young, Aggie Randle, Callie (Lamar) Bates; sisters-in-law, Marie (Ivy) Williams, Elizabeth Wiley, Ethel Wiley; seven grandchildren, Leondra Wright-whom she raised, Tamisha (Elder Antwain) Alexander, Adrienne Boyd, Taara Booker, Nicholas Maze, Norman Booker III & Allicia Maze; seven great-grandchildren; Jevonte’, Brentin, LaDon, Amaya, Leondra II, Kaayla & Alivia; aunt, Clara Smith; uncle, Thomas Randle; god-children, Marquis Hankins, Morgan Blue, Davon Hollins and Siketa Hollins; a host of nieces, nephews and other loved ones including special friends; Simone Hollins, Liz Wynne, Rosie Doyle, Irene Burns, Edwin & Sadie Wright and Mary Southward.
Fannie was preceded in death by husband of 55 years, Norman Booker Sr.; infant son, Larry Booker; parents, John & Katie Wiley; brothers; George & Fred Wiley, Kelso Wiley, James Wiley, Woodrow Wiley, Warren Wiley; sisters, Zenobia Booker & Quinzola Anderson; step-brother, Doty Anderson & step-sister, Florence Henderson.
