Your wife and mother taught with all her heart. I believe teaching was her passion. She taught not only math but life lessons as well through her words and actions. I remember how Mrs. Scott related to each and every student and explained her math problems in a way even the worst math student could understand. I remember her loud teaching voice, "hold on to your jockstrap ace", review in the mornings on test day and how she used to run through the gym to get back to her classroom.
Many long hours of caring and teaching made her the best math teacher I (and many others) had and will ever have. A great one was lost and will forever be remembered. I thank her for all her hard work and dedication to all of her students.

My most common memory is that of 20 students at the chalk board all at once. No secrets...either you got it or you didn't, but we didn't move on until everyone had it. She never needed to discipline anyone, she had too much of our respect. The only detention I recall her handing out(I'm sure thier were others) was to Jared when he called her Rochelle in study hall. I'll miss seeing her when I return to Burt, but I'll never quit thinking of her when I use math. |

I was so sorry to hear of Rochelle's passing. I didn't know she had been battling cancer, so it was a real shock when Tracy e-mailed me and told me she had died. She really was a great Burt friend to me as all of you were. I just read through all of her tributes, and she truly was a great lady!! I loved visiting with her every week when she came into the shop, talking sports, working with her in the church, singing in our "big choir", and visiting with her after I came back to Burt for Burt Days. She may have judged me in her own way, but I never felt it when we were together again. That really meant a lot to me. You have mydeepest sympathy on the loss of your wife, mother, grandmother,etc. I never had the opportunity to have her as a teacher, but I do know what a terrific math teacher she was, as I had several chances to sub for her, when I first got out of college. Her love for life and teaching was very evident in everything she did. I also had the opportunity to haul her in mydad's convertible in the Sweetcorn Day parade, the summer after she retired. I read a poem that stated "A good teacher is like a candle, it consumes itself to light the way for others". I believe Rochelle embodied that poem as she transfered her fire to many of us that were honored enough to call her our teacher. Like so many others, I owe my respect of mathematics to Rochelle. I struggled mightly with algebra I & II but she would not allow me to give up and I'll be forever grateful to her for that as I use advanced mathematics daily in my Air Force career. I know deep inside, I would not have succeeded in the Air Force without her direct but caring mentoring. My memories of Rochelle as a family friend are just as strong as those of her teaching ability. Our families have shared many great moments through the years and Rochelle is at the core of them all. My deepest sympathies extended to the Scott family. Mrs. Scott was such a great teacher and really set the bar high for so many. I just learned this week of the passing of Rochelle. I was saddened to hear my favorite teacher of all times had passed away. Rochelle was truly an inspiration for all. Never gave up on anyone no matter how long it took. I can still remember one day when some of the guys in my class put a disected frog on her chair and how she jumped when she pulled her chair out. She was a great sport. Don't ever remember her without a smile. She truly loved her job. Rochelle taught 7 of my siblings also. Each and everyone of us loved having her as a teacher. She not only was a great math teacher she was a great person and role model. My sympathy to Mike, Armande, Shane and the rest of the family. model. You are all in my prayers. Kathy |

Michael and Family,
I just heard about the loss of your wife, mother and grandmother. You have my sympathies in your time of grieving. Bernie and I just lost Mom, Violet, in August also. It is so hard to part. I hope that Rocelle did not suffer if she had a battle with cancer.
