Rochelle Scott

     Rochelle A. Scott, age 73, of Burt, Iowa, died on Monday, August 24, 2009 at the Heritage Nursing Home in Bancroft.  Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Friday at the Burt Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Glenn Wilson officiating.  Burial will be in East Lawn Memory Gardens in Algona.  Visitation will be 4:00 – 8:00 PM Thursday at the church. 

     Rochelle Ann Andrews, the daughter of J. Dean and Mary Jean (Ludwig) Andrews, was born on December 24, 1935 in Algona, Iowa.  She graduated from Burt High School in 1953.  In 1957, Rochelle received a Bachelors of Science in Mathematics and a minor in English from Iowa State College.  From the fall of ‘57 to the spring of ‘60, she taught Mathematics at Crestwood High School in Cresco.  She married Louis Michael Scott of Burt, Iowa on August 14, 1960.  From the fall of 1960 until the spring of 1964, she taught Mathematics at Ledyard.  After taking off a year for the birth of her daughter, Armande, she went to work at the Sentral School district near Fenton teaching Math and English, and years later, Computer Programming.  Rochelle was the first instructor to teach computers in Kossuth County.

     Rochelle served many years as secretary of the United Methodist Church Board.  Rochelle belonged to the Burt Federated Woman's Club and served as an officer in the Burt Presbyterian Church.  She also was a charter member of the Sentral Dollars for Scholars and served on the Board of the Burt Library.  After Rochelle retired from teaching in 1997, she and Michael enjoyed traveling, having been to all 50 states, Europe three times and the Panama Canal.  They also looked forward to spending the winters in Apache Junction, Arizona.  Rochelle enjoyed water skiing and slalomed skied until she was 60.  She enjoyed attending her grandsons sporting events and she cherished her relationships with her students and their parents.

     Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 49 years, Michael Scott of Burt; a daughter, Armande Fruhling and her husband Bill of Madison, WI; a son, Shane Scott and his wife Lisa of Bolingbrook, IL; three grandsons, Eric Fruhling, Kyle Fruhling and Luke Scott; a brother, J. D. Andrews and his wife Mary of Burt; and a sister, Pamela Wall and her husband David of Los Angeles, CA.  She was preceded in death by her parents.
