Larry Theodore Lewis
Larry passed away on December 24, 2011 surrounded by close family and a lot of love.
Larry is survived by his wife, Betty (Tompkins); Brother, Tom (Deborah) Lewis of Gregory; son, Jeff (Jessie) Lewis of Howell; daughter, Jodie Lewis; granddaughter, Lily Lewis of Manchester; along with many brother and sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Elmer “Bud” and Madolin (Buttle) Lewis of Ann Arbor and sister, Rhoda Wagner of Ann Arbor.
Larry was very active in the community. He and his 3 therapy dogs were very active with Dog Tales literacy group and Heartland Hospice. He also spent much of the last eight years working to preserve the Clare Railroad Depot. Larry was a long time member of the Elks and Jaycees, while living in Dexter. Besides his love for model trains, Larry enjoyed playing softball for many years. He was one of the biggest U of M fans you could ever meet. His favorite place in the whole world was Wilderness State Park and the whole Mackinaw area. He camped there almost every year since he was a boy; and upon retirement, started spending much of the summer there as a campground host.
A memorial will be held at the Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Home in Clare, MI on Saturday, January 7th at 2pm.
