Marilyn J. Pitchford, age 83, of Midland, passed away on, Monday, May 7, 2012, at Tendercare-Midland following a brief illness. She was born the daughter of Cecil and Ina F. (Schofield) Davison on October 31, 1928, in Farwell, Michigan.
Marilyn married Donald J. Pitchford on June 19, 1948. He predeceased her on January 15, 2010. She was also predeceased by her parents.
Marilyn lived in Farwell most of her life and graduated from Farwell High School in 1946. As the mother of four children, Marilyn also worked as a paraprofessional at the Farwell Elementary School. Following graduation from Central Michigan University, in 1975, Marilyn taught fourth grade, retiring from Farwell Area Schools in 1994.
Marilyn was a community-minded individual who loved and highly valued her family and friendships. During her life, she was a member of the Surrey Township Library Board, the Farwell Historical Society, the Farwell Women’s Club, and several book clubs.
In September, 2010, Marilyn moved to an apartment at Independence Village-Midland. She always enjoyed family gatherings, lunches with friends, taking classes, attending meetings, and of course, the book club discussions.
Survivors include her children, Joan and Terry Cashin of Coleman, Eric and Esther Pitchford of Farwell, Mary Pitchford of Midland, Alan and Tracey Pitchford of Farwell; her grandchildren Lisa Pitchford, Kenneth and Samantha Pitchford, Andrew and Amy Cashin, and Tyler Pitchford; her great-grandchildren Terryn Grider, Kieley Grider, and Addison Cashin; her brother Bernard and Patricia Davison and family; family friend Niki Diehm; sisters-in-law Jean Smith and Irene Morris; and several nieces and nephews.
In keeping with Marilyn’s wishes cremation has taken place.
A visitation with family and friends will be held Saturday, May 12, 2012, from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Farwell Chapel of Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donors are asked to consider: The Farwell Historical Society, the Surrey Township Library or the Farwell Area Schools Endowment Fund.
