Reo Duncan

Funeral services for Reo A.G. Duncan, a former resident of Gillette, Wyoming, will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, October 9, 2009, at Gillette Memorial Chapel with The Rev. Lauren Ekdahl officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Pisgah Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m., Thursday, October 8, 2009 at Gillette Memorial Chapel.


 


Mr. Duncan, age 66, passed away on Friday, October 2, 2009, at his home in Stonebridge Village,  Branson West, Missouri,  following a courageous battle with cancer.


 


Reo Duncan was born January 10, 1943, in Weiser, Idaho, the son of Iola (Dye) and Chesley Burke “C.B.” Duncan. He attended schools in Pocatello, Idaho, and Colton High in Colton, California. In 1960, he enlisted in the Air Force, was stationed in Scotland for three years, and served this country in Air Sea Rescue Missions.  As a civilian, he continued to serve our country as an air craft electrician  by repairing helicopter and radio equipment in Vietnam during the war, and also in Panama and  various Air Force Bases throughout the United States.  He moved to Gillette, Wyoming, in 1982, and was employed as an electrician by the Thunder Basin Coal Mine.  Following his retirement from Arch Coal in 1999, he established an electrical MSHA inspection/repair company in Campbell County Wyoming. On June 27, 1990, he married Betty Wilson Hayden, of  Gillette.  In December of 2004, they moved to Branson West, Missouri.   He enjoyed traveling, playing golf, cards, and cribbage and participated in the activities in the Branson area.   Spending time with family and friends was important to him.  A constant companion was his six pound poodle whom he referred to as his “hunting dog” Muffin because she hunted laps! Reo was initiated into Mount Kinport Lodge No. 95, A.F. and A.M. in Pocatello, Idaho, on November 15, 1979. He served as Worshipful  Master of the Upton Lodge No. 38, Upton, Wyoming in 1990-1991 and was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Basin, Wyoming, and also of Table Rock Lodge No. 680, Kimberling City, Missouri.  He was a charter member of the International Peace Garden Lodge in North Dakota. Reo was a member of the Scottish Rite Free Masons and of the Powder River Shrine Club, Gillette, Wyoming.  Reo was active in the Order of the Eastern Star being a member of  Lewisia No. 16 of Basin, Wyoming and a 25 year member of Gentian No. 23, in Gillette, Wyoming.  He served as Worthy Patron of Gentian Chapter  seven terms. He was appointed Grand Representative of Quebec in Wyoming and  in 2003, he was appointed Grand Chaplain of Wyoming, O.E.S.  Reo enjoyed visiting Eastern Star meetings all over the United States, Canada and Scotland. He was also a member of the American Legion Post No. 637, Kimberling City, Missouri, and attended the Presbyterian Church.


 


Reo is survived by his wife, Betty Duncan  of Branson West, Missouri; step sons: Tracy (Michele) Hayden and Kevin (Amy) Hayden of Gillette, Wyoming; three sisters: Mrs. Tony (Sharon) Devries of  Oakridge, Oregon, Mrs. Gib (Joy) Johnson of Loma Linda, California, and Mrs. Nona Ryan of Oregon City, Oregon; two brothers: David (Coralee) Duncan and Bruce (Sharalee) Duncan of Pocatello, Idaho; five grandsons: D.J., Dillon, Max Hayden and Rico and Nate DelGrande; two granddaughters: Shyla and Chancey Hayden, all of Gillette, Wyoming and several nieces and nephews.


 


He was preceded in death by his parents and previous wife, Edna Duncan.
