Services for Lewis T. Nelson, 86, of Tyler will be held on Monday, August 25, 2008 at 10:00 AM at Stewart Family Funeral Home with Bro. Mark Price officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Cemetery under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home.
Mr. Nelson passed away on August 21, 2008 at Hospice of East Texas in Tyler.
He was born on January 9, 1922 in Jay, Florida to the late Albert and Dora Simmons Nelson. He graduated from Jay High School and went on to serve his country in the United States Army for twenty years. He served in Europe in WWII from Normandy Beach heads to the Elba River and later in Korea during the Korean conflict. He retired from the Military in 1967 at Fort Story, Virginia.
Mr. Nelson was a member of Cora Baptist Church in Jay, Florida before moving to Flint where he became a member of Southside Baptist Church.
Mr. Nelson was preceded in death by his wife Bertha; his parents, a brother, Aubrey Nelson and wife Juanita; two sisters, Ila Mae Lacy and husband Herman, and Effie Little and husband Albert. He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Anna Shammo Nelson; a stepdaughter, Genny Fate and husband Thomas of Tyler; three stepsons, Scott Shammo and wife Kathy of Easley, South Carolina, Dennis Shammo and wife Lisa of Akron, Ohio, and David Shammo and wife Sue of Houston; 14 step grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation is scheduled from 4:00-6:00 PM on Sunday, August 24, 2008 at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Highway, in Tyler.
In lieu of flowers, Lewis requested memorials be made to Southside Baptist Church Building Fund, 15330 FM 2493, Tyler, Texas 75703 or a charity of your choice.
