A memorial service celebrating the life of Virginia Ann Griffith Wood, 69, of Bullard will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2008 at 11:00 AM at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Stuart Baskin, Rev. Pam Leach, and Dr. Gary Fitzgerald officiating. Private burial will be at Bullard Cemetery under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home.
Mrs. Wood passed away on November 11, 2008 at her home in Bullard.
She was born on November 1, 1939 in Richmond, Missouri to Dr. Harry and Virginia Bates Griffith. She was raised in Richmond, Missouri, graduating from Richmond High School. Even as a small child Genny showed an interest in all kinds of art. Her love of art continued and grew until she enrolled in the University of Missouri where she earned a degree in Art and French. After graduation, Genny shared her talent and love of art with students in Missouri, Tennessee, Colorado and Texas. She taught art at Moore Middle School and Orr Elementary, and helped develop the art program for Grace Community School. Genny was actively involved in the art community in Tyler by teaching art classes to all ages at the Tyler Museum of Art and assisting in the development of the Discovery Science Place. She also painted murals for First Presbyterian Church and Landmark Title Company in Tyler. Genny retired after teaching for 40 years. Along with her husband, Bill, Genny was a board member of the Mission House of Bullard and gave a great deal of time and love to the community.
Genny was preceded in death by her parents and a brother-in-law, Jack Glock. She is survived by a loving family including her husband of 48 years, William R. Wood of Bullard; daughter, Shannon Elizabeth Wood of Whitehouse; son, William R. Wood II and wife Kelly of Bullard; grandchildren, Michael Pritchard, Lindsay Pritchard, Amy Enlow, Ryan Wood, Jess Wood, Chris Wood, Cade Wood, and Marquez Franklin; sisters, Martha Griffith O’Donnell and husband Pat of Ouray, Colorado, and Susan Bates Griffith of Chicago; sister-in-law, Beth Glock of Liberty, Missouri; nieces, Carrie Weston, Stacey Leech, and Kristen Lentz; and nephews, Mitch Glock, John Glock, and Chris Ottinger.
Visitation is scheduled for Friday, November 14, 2008 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Highway, in Tyler.
