Services for Mr. Charles A. Hightower, 72, of Tyler will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2008 at 1:00 PM in the chapel of Stewart Family Funeral Home with Bro. Benjamin Peales officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home.
Mr. Hightower departed from his family, Monday, December 22, 2008 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He was born September 23, 1936 in LaRue, Texas to Chauncy Hightower and Ardelia Davis Freeney.
He joined in holy matrimony to Ms. Lillie Ruth Bristol on March 31, 1971.
Mr. Hightower was an Owner/Operator with Atlas Van Lines for over 44 years. In 1980 he opened a night club called “Lillie’s Place” in Los Angeles, California while still driving for Atlas. In 1983 he closed the club and continued to do what he truly loved, driving for Atlas Van Lines. His family was very important to him. He worked hard to provide for them. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and loved them all dearly. He enjoyed music and fishing as well.
He was preceded in death by both his parents and two brothers, Gene Harmon and Willis Chambers.
Mr. Hightower leaves to mourn a loving wife, Lillie Ruth Hightower; loving sons, Sherwood Wilson Hightower and wife Wendy of Dallas, Charles Hightower, Jr. and wife Donna of Fort Worth, Stephen Hightower of Dallas; his devoted daughters, Jacqueline Hightower of Dallas, Joeanne Elam and husband Lester of Frankston, Shelia Gibson and husband Rodney of Dallas, and Demetria Hightower of Fort Worth; two brothers, Rubin Hightower of Los Angeles, CA and Chauncy Hightower, Jr. and wife Joenell of Dallas; three sisters, Winnie Brown of Dallas, Anita Collins of Dallas, and Rebecca Webster of LaRue; sister-in-law, Bobbie Chambers of Dallas; aunt, Eva Mea Burks and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation is scheduled for Friday, January 2, 2008 from 5:00-7:00 PM at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Highway, in Tyler. Viewing will also be held one hour prior to the service on Saturday, January 3, 2008 beginning at 12:00 Noon.
