A graveside service for Evelyn Greenwald Lazarus, 88, of Houston, formerly of Tyler, will be held on Friday, October 23, 2009 at 11:30 AM at Ahavath Achim Cemetery with Rabbi Alan Lerner officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Levy Funeral Home of Bellaire and Stewart Family Funeral Home of Tyler.
Mrs. Lazarus passed away, Wednesday, October 21, 2009 in Houston.
She was born May 5, 1921 in New York City, New York to Rose and Charles Greenwald. She was raised in Miami, FL where she met the love of her life, Walter Lazarus. She and Walter married in 1943. The family moved to Tyler in 1959.
Evelyn and Walter both owned the Shoe Tree in Tyler before retiring.
Mrs. Lazarus and her husband were members of the Congregation Ahavath Achim where she served as secretary of the congregation for many years.
Mrs. Lazarus was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sisters’, Helen Cromer, Peg Cromer, Miriam Seiderman and Sunny Zimmerman.
Evelyn is survived by her two daughters, Glenda Kirshbaum and husband Dan, of Houston, and Rona Pogrund and husband Rich of Austin; grandchildren, Geoffrey and Christi Kirshbaum, David Kirshbaum, Lauren and Ben Kass, Ben Pogrund, and Amy Pogrund; and great-granddaughter, Chloe Kirshbaum.
