Graveside services for Athol Glenn Jeter, age 90, of Tyler, will be held on Sunday, June 27, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Pleasant Retreat Cemetery with Rev. Lynette Solomon officiating, under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home.
Mr. Jeter passed away June 24, 2010 at Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler.
Glenn was born January 27, 1920 in Canton, Texas to the late James Wesley and Katie Orlena Snow Jeter. He was raised in Preston, Oklahoma before moving to Tyler and attending Tyler Schools and Tyler Junior College. He and his wife, Betty lived in Misson, Texas from 1961 to 1982. He worked as a landscaper for the Texas Department of Transportation and retired after 32 years of service. He was in the Air Force Reserve for 22 years. He was active in World War II in the Army Air Corp. and then the Air Force Reserve after the War. He was a mason and member of the T. R. Bonner Masonic Lodge #764 of Mt. Sylvan, Texas. He loved gardening, growing tomatoes, roses and citrus in the Valley.
Glenn is survived by his daughters, Sharon Jackson and husband Gary of Tyler, Glenda Allen and husband Richard of Livingston, Texas; one son, Stephen Jeter and his wife Teresa of Tyler, Texas; six grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 62 years, Betty Cook Jeter.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Travis Jeter, Nick Savarino, Steffen Savarino, Chris Willis, Ray Bockmon, Howard Brandon, Jimmy Gray, Harold Gray, and John Gray.
Visitation will be Saturday, June 26, 2010, from 4:00 to 6 PM at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Hwy., Tyler, Texas 75703.
