On June 28, 2010, heaven welcomed home a most beautiful angel as Zella Glidden Wilson crossed over into eternal glory.
The youngest of 11 children, Zella was born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska. Her life changed forever with her decision to attend Bethany Peniel College in Oklahoma. It was there that she met, and eventually married Arless Wilson.
For 34 years she enjoyed a career in elementary education, challenging and enlightening young minds. She retired in 1995 from Rice Elementary in Tyler. She was also faithfully involved in her local and district church. She was twice awarded the Distinguished Service Award from the Dallas District Church of the Nazarene for faithful service to God and missions on both the local and district level. She was also a member of the Dallas District World Missions Council for 24 years, as well as twice being a delegate to the General Assembly of the Church of the Nazarene. However, as she always said, her greatest accomplishment in life was being a loving wife and mother.
She is survived by her adoring husband of 54 years, Arless Wilson of Tyler; sons, Dr. Mark Wilson and wife Beth of Springfield, MO., Dr. Brad Wilson of Nacogdoches and Mr. Doug Wilson of Oklahoma City, OK.; brother, Mr. Chester Glidden of Surprise, AZ.; and her seven grandchildren who loved her deeply and will miss her immensely.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Brian Wilson, Scott Wilson, Jordan Wilson, Josh Wilson, Andy Wilson and Philip Anderson.
Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, July 1, 2010 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Hwy., Tyler, Texas, 75703.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in honor of Zella Wilson may be made to the committee for which she chaired, Senior Adult Ministries of First Church of the Nazarene, 3700 Old Bullard Rd., Tyler, Texas, 75701.
