Services for Michael Joseph Lies, 63, of Garland will be held on Thursday, September 16, 2010 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Stewart Family Funeral Home with Rev. Ken Goode officiating. Interment will follow in Bullard Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home.
Mr. Lies passed away on September 12, 2010 at Baylor Hospital in Garland.
He was born on April 16, 1947 in Boise, Idaho to the late Melvin and Maxine Lies. Mr. Lies served in the United States Army from 1964 until 1968. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and a recipient of two Purple Hearts of Honor. He was a truck driver for 25 years, the last 13 years at Valspar. He was a friend to all he met and a helping hand to all. He loved the Dallas Cowboys, Boise State College and the Nascar races.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Lies was preceded in death by his brother, Earl Lies. He is survived by four children, Takesha Brown of Bullard, J. J. Lies of Tyler, Devin Lies and Buffy Hutton, both of Tennessee; two grandchildren, Ariel Lies of Tyler and Graven Maddox of Tennessee; brother, Gary Lies of Idaho; sister, Helen Nelson of Washington; half-sister, Arron Odell of North Dakota; and very long and close friends, Sherry Fields and James Warren.
Pallbearers will be Ron Brooks, Paul Hatalek, Freddy Jubera, Michael Lowrance, J. J. Lies, and Charles Wilmaker.
Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, September 16, 2010 at 1:00 PM, one hour prior to the service, at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Highway, in Tyler.
