Barton – John Jefferson Barton, age 67, of Macclenny, Florida passed away September 10, 2010 at his residence following a brief illness. John was born in Macclenny, FL to the late Ressie Barton and Agnes Lucy Griffis on August 17, 1943. He resided in Macclenny all of his life and he retired after 28 years as Baker County Supervisor of Elections. John honorably served in the US Army and received the Purple Heart Combat Wounded Medal while on a tour of service in Vietnam. He was predeceased by his brothers: Alvin Barton & Arlie Barton and his sister: Pauline Barton Byrd.
Family members include his wife: Wanda Benefield Barton of Macclenny, FL; his daughters: Stephanie (Joshua) Denmark of Macclenny, FL, Tina (Eric) Carver of Macclenny, FL, Lawanda (Walter) Sciberras of Yulee, FL; his three grandchildren: Jonathan, Erica and Abigail; his siblings: Charles (Dot) Barton, Cliff (June) Barton, Phillip Barton, Hester (Joseph) Johnson and Edward Barton all of Macclenny, FL.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at 11:00 am at Christian Fellowship Temple in Macclenny, FL with Pastors David Hodges & Clifton Barton, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Macedonia Cemetery in Macclenny, FL. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 from 2:00-8:00 pm at the church.
