Echols- Margaret Amanda Wiggins Echols, 86, of Macclenny, Florida passed away March 6 after an extended illness. She was born in Pierce County, Georgia on February 15, 1925 to the late Minnie Lee Blount and Terrell Oscar Wiggins. Margaret and her late husband, Sam Echols, owned and operated The Palms Nursery for over 25 years. She enjoyed working in her greenhouse, growing beautiful exotic plants and flowers. Always active in her church, she taught Sunday school, nurturing and inspiring people – young and old. She often traveled to the mountains to see the vibrant colors of the Fall leaves and to the beach for long walks at sunrise.
She was a devoted and loving mother of three daughters: Linda (Win) Carlson of Palm Coast, FL, Faye (Larry) Altman of Valdosta, GA and Janie Echols of Macclenny, FL, People of all ages knew her as Ma Margaret because she mothered them each with hot Southern cooked meals, homemade pies and warm hugs. Priceless memories of love and laughter are her legacy.
She is survived by her youngest brother: Terrell Oscar Wiggins, Jr. of Tampa, FL; her granddaughter: Dannean Altman of Naples, FL and her great granddaughter: Emma Hofsitter of Naples, FL. She is predeceased by her 5 siblings.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday March 12, 2011 at 10:00 am at First Assembly of God in Macclenny, FL with Pastor Joshua Potts officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery in Macclenny, FL. The family will receive friends on Friday March 11, 2011 from 6:00-8:00 pm at the funeral home.
