Florence M. Kasiske, age 97 of Edwardsville, Illinois died at 9:55 a.m. Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at the Rosewood Care Center in Edwardsville. Florence was a retired librarian at Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville. Florence was born in Warsaw, Illinois on November 17, 1912, daughter of the late Herman R. & Anna (Capfer) Kasiske. Florence received her Bachelor’s Degree in History from Illinois Wesleyan University in 1933; her Master of Arts Degree from the University of Illinois in 1943; and her Master of Science in Library Science at the University of Illinois in 1966. She taught in Orangeville & Edinburg, Illinois High Schools; the University of Northern Iowa at Cedar Falls from 1945-62; and came to Edwardsville and worked as a Librarian at Southern Illinois University retiring in 1981, Professor Emerita. Florence’s memberships include: the National, Illinois, and Iowa Education Associations, Association for Student Teaching, American Association of University Professors, American and Illinois Library Associations, University Of Illinois Library School Association, American Association of University Women, and the League of Women Voters. Florence was also a member of the Pi Gamma Mu, Phi Kappa Phi, & Beta Phi Mu honor societies. She was a member at St. John’s United Methodist Church in Edwardsville. There is no visitation. A graveside service will be held at 10 am Tuesday, June 15, 2010 at the Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery in Burlington, Iowa. Memorials may be given to St. John’s United Methodist Church.
